Living Duality
<Living Duality> is a project that I, as a stage designer, led from design to production.
I formed a design and production teams to collaborate with theater directors and crews as part of a project called “Youth Theater Festival”.
To capture the identity of the protagonist, who is a collaborator with pro-Japanese forces, I incorporated a design using a structure that blends Korean and Japanese architecture in a compromise, symbolizing the Korean-Japanese Treaty.
Tools: Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Vray
Design Concept
The main character has two egos which is pro-Japanese and Korean. He live in a wealthy Hanok, but it looks like frivolous and miscellaneous.
By presenting this concept, I mixed the Korean Hanok and Japanese Dadami in one architect.
Research
The main character is an upper-class pro-Japanese. He is a greedy man who collects everything that looks good.
We used props and various lighting to express the atmosphere of a luxurious but undignified house accordingly.
By borrowing the architecture of Japanese and Korean eclectic house structures, I referenced the hanok renovation materials of the time and added a circular door as an exterior material.
